Vimory® FAQs

INTERVIEWS AND RAW VIDEO

  • Inherited Stories does not offer reshoots of interviews unless our staff committed a technical error such as focusing the camera incorrectly or recording poor audio.

We put an emphasis on planning out questions and story prompts ahead of time so that reshoots should never be necessary from a content perspective.

  • Inherited Stories does not provide the raw video to clients due to two production reasons.

The first is that we shoot in what's called a RAW format. This media type looks grey and discolored during playback without proper editing. The format was designed for flexibility when color-grading in post-production, which allows our editors to make sure skin tones are picture perfect and everything else looks color-accurate.

The second reason is we record the interview subject's audio on one primary source and reference audio on our other cameras. We do this so that in post-production we can synchronize all the cameras together. On its own, the reference audio might sound quiet, or worse, have background noise in it and be garbled. This is why we only use it for synchronization purposes and replace it with the primary audio source during editing.

  • Yes! We are happy to transcribe and provide a document copy of the entire raw interview for an additional $1,000. Please let us know that you would like this option when creating your Vimory Production Agreement.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS

  • As long as all the photos and videos were collected at the same time, there is no additional cost for converting and digitizing media as that price is included in the cost for each Vimory package. In order to ensure this happens, Inherited Stories requires gathering and labeling all photos and videos before we schedule a shoot.

As long as a client stays within the allotted amounts for both photos and videos of the package they choose, the cost will not go up. Any photos/paintings/videos/films reels/cassettes/etc. beyond the allotted amount increases the price depending on the size and weight of the media as that will increase the digitization and/or return shipping costs.

The cost for additional photos or videos can be found under the Customization Options section on the Vimory cost page.

  • Once your media has been converted and digitized, we will return it to you directly if you are within 50 miles of Edina, MN. If not, we will package and ship your physical media back to you via FedEx or UPS. Those shipping costs are covered by Inherited Stories.

  • Yes! 100%. If you have already converted physical media into digital, we will gladly accept it.

We will work with you to create folders for organization purposes and so you can transfer the media to us seamlessly.

Although there can be a point where there is too much to sift through, generally speaking we appreciate having more material to work with as that gives our Vimory editors options.

Vimory

  • No. A Vimory is all about the subject telling their story in their voice, and the focus must always be on that person.

Hired narration, on-camera reactions, and other forms of outsider-reaction storytelling detract from that objective.

The exception to this rule is if there is no other way to provide context to a person’s answer. In that case, we may leave the interviewer’s question in so the family can hear that question for context.

However, in most cases, we prefer to use text to show the question.

  • Yes. Please tell us how many you would like as early as possible so we can be sure we have the correct amount. Each drive costs an additional $75.00 and will be itemized on the final invoice.

Payment

  • Customers pay two separate payments. The first payment is due when the Vimory Production Agreement is initally signed and acts as a down-payment on getting our work started. This payment is half the cost of the chosen Vimory package.

The second payment is due after the final Vimory has been reviewed and approved by the hiring family. This payment will also include the additional costs related to any travel, archived material sourcing, additional media digitization, and/or hourly revisions.

  • Inherited Stories currently accepts money orders, personal checks and Zelle.

Miscellaneous

  • No, we are a for-profit business.

We use any and all donations to cover the cost of a Vimory for a family who cannot typically afford one througe our Give-A-Vimory program.
