We all consume video regularly these days but most people are unfamiliar with how much time and effort it takes to produce quality work. Because of this, many families have sticker shock when viewing our cost and a common question is: “What’s behind your cost?”
In an effort to help educate people about the value of our work, we have gathered some key benefits to working with us:

Expert Guidance
Our team consists of Emmy Award-winning storytellers. Each of us have a strong understanding of how to structure narrative stories. We know how to craft a story so its pacing hits the right notes at the right time, and conveys a person’s authentic self.
We are used to handling production challenges and you will get the benefit of a combined 50 years of video storytelling experience when you work with us.
Professional Quality
We are trained in the art of video storytelling and using professional-grade equipment to do so. Many of our production techniques have historically been reserved for film sets, commercial narrative work and corporate settings. We want families to be able to benefit from those techniques when capturing their loved one’s story.
We are diligent and detail-oriented when researching your loved one and editing their piece. It takes time to ensure the quality of your Vimory is top-notch. Depending on a number of factors, our production process can take anywhere from two months to six months to complete a single piece.
Meaningful Memory Capture Locations (MMCLs)™: These are physical locations that hold meaning to the interviewee and are directly related to the Vimory’s story structure. Examples include:

Favorite places to visit
Childhood home
Childhood school
College or university campus
Inherited Stories will offer to travel to each location and record video of that space to use as part of the Vimory product. Please note, travel costs will incur depending on where the locations are (see How Does Travel Work below).
Meaningful Hobby (MH)™: A meaningful hobby must be conducted in the interview location or a physical location within 10 miles of the location. An example of an MH is playing an instrument, gardening, craftwork, gaming, etc. MH restrictions may apply; consult with us per individual request.
Digitization (Digitized) refers to the process of converting physical media into digital media. The result is a computer file your family will be able to use for any future purposes.
*Photos/Paintings are based on a 5” x 7” sizing. Photos/Paintings larger than 5” x 7” will add an extra cost depending on their size.
**Inherited Stories will do its best to return any framed photos or paintings to their original form but please note, neither we nor our partner, Linhoff Photo, specialize in framing services and do not guarantee returning any framed paintings or photos in their original condition.

****Adding additional interviewees, locations and story prompts will significantly impact the narrative direction of the Vimory and add editing time to the overall piece.
STEP 1: Meeting and connecting
We want you and your loved ones to feel comfortable and be happy working with us. That’s why the first thing we’ll do is meet so we can get to know you and your family. This work is personal, it’s your family’s legacy documentary and we want to help capture the stories that matter the most.
During our time together we will provide our organizational guide that will help you gather all the personal elements we’ll need for the Vimory creation process. When you decide to move forward, we’ll have you sign a Vimory Production Agreement, place a down payment, and send in the completed worksheet.
HOW DOES TRAVEL WORK?
Travel within the Upper Midwest
Travel to any location outside a 50-mile radius of Edina, MN is invoiced at a rate of $0.75 per mile. Any travel further than 2 hours from Edina, MN but still within the Upper Midwest (MN, WI, IA, IL ND, SD) will require overnight stays at a hotel and its cost will be covered by the hiring family. All travel distances will be listed in estimated mileage between individual locations.
Food and other necessities will not be charged for as Inherited Stories will cover those costs for its employees/agents.
Travel beyond the Upper Midwest
Inherited Stories will always attempt to recruit a video storyteller in a local area who can provide equipment and recording services to execute the Vimory Production. This agent will work directly with our Vimory Storytellers to ensure we are capturing what was agreed to in the Vimory Production Agreement.
If Inherited Stories is unable to find a video storyteller and must travel with equipment, those estimated costs will be presented in the Vimory Production Itinerary. Any travel required to locations beyond the Upper Midwest will require a flight, a rental vehicle, equipment shipping costs, and hotel accommodations. If a shoot requires multiple flights and/or multiple days, that additional cost will be made clear in the Vimory Production Itinerary.
STEP 2: Recording
Our next step is to coordinate a time to record the conversation with all four of the people who want to share about the loved one. This can be tricky!
We’ll collect any physical media from you at that time and have it digitized by our partners at Linhoff Photo.
Since we are often in close proximity, we will also plan to shoot either the Meaningful Memory Capture Locations or the Meaningful Hobbies during this time.
STEP 3: creating the vimory
We begin building and editing the Vimory based off the worksheet you have filled out. We search for archived photos, videos and music that enhance your Vimory. Please note, many archived media sources are subject to copyright and acquiring those rights may increase production costs.
Two revision requests are included with each Vimory. Once the Vimory has been completed to your satisfaction, all that’s left is to share the Vimory with you.
STEP 4: delivering the vimory
We primarily deliver Vimories as a digital download.
For a limited-time and while supplies last, we will also gift the Vimory to you on a custom-wooden USB drive inside of a protective case. A marker will also be provided so the person whose stories have been collected may write their name to capture their signature.
